• Fresh, delicious fish in Sri Lanka is entirely dependent on the daily catch, and one of the best ways to experience the island’s authentic local life is by visiting the vibrant fish markets. Trawlers dock at the harbour, unloading their catch, which is immediately taken to the market for sale. On the eastern edge of Galle, a bustling local fish market along the docks offers a front-row view of this dynamic process. Every morning, the market receives the freshest maalu (fish in Sinhala) straight from the Indian Ocean. Watch in awe as locals crowd the stalls, haggling over the day's catch as glistening fish are unloaded right in front of you. Proceed to Yala at your own pace. Approx. 2 hours’ drive. Enjoy your afternoon (02-230pm) safari at the Yala NP.

Afterward, proceed to visit Buduruwagala Approx. 2 hours’ drive

Buduruwagala is an ancient Buddhist rock temple located in the southern part of Sri Lanka, near the town of Wellawaya. The site is famous for its impressive rock carvings, particularly the 51-foot (15.5 meters) tall statue of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. This statue, carved into the rock face, is one of the largest of its kind in Sri Lanka.The complex dates back to the 10th century, during the reign of King Mahasena, and features several other smaller statues and carvings, including figures of Buddha, bodhisattvas, and a variety of religious icons. On the way, the guide will stop the car at the majestic Ravana Falls, giving you the opportunity to capture some photos and soak in the serene beauty of the waterfall.

Check in to your hotel and take in the mesmerizing views of the Ella mountains. Located just 5 minutes from Ella town, your hotel offers easy access to explore the vibrant atmosphere of the town, with its array of restaurants, cafes, pubs, lodges, and boutiques. Enjoy a leisurely stroll and soak up the good vibes of Ella.

In the morning, enjoy a light trek to Little Adam's Peak (your guide will accompany you if desired). The hike takes about 1 to 1.5 hours and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and tea plantations. It's a perfect spot for panoramic views of Ella Rock and the lush landscape.

Afterward, take a short Tuk-Tuk ride to the iconic Nine Arches Bridge. Capture some photos and enjoy the breathtaking views. If you're lucky, you might even see a train crossing the bridge – your guide will check the schedule to ensure the best timing for your visit.

Visit the Monastery in the Clouds in Ella and learn about the teachings of Buddha from a monk. Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery stands as a haven of peace discover the serenity of The Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery in Bandarawela, near Ella. Morning proceed to Habarana via Matale. Stop in a spice garden in Matale to learn about Sri Lankan spices. Approx. 1.5 hours’ drive

The region produces high-quality spices like cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, pepper, turmeric, nutmeg, and vanilla. Known for its rich soil and favorable climate, Matale's spice gardens offer a unique opportunity to explore the cultivation and use of these aromatic and flavorful ingredients, essential to Sri Lankan cuisine.

Proceed to your hotel in Habarana, Approx. 1.5 hours’ drive. Check in and take the afternoon to relax, as you'll need to rise early tomorrow to climb Sigiriya rock.

After breakfast proceed to climb Sigiriya rock fortress. Approx. 1.5 hours’ drive

Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a 5th-century citadel built by King Kasyapa, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that showcases the brilliance of ancient Sri Lankan engineering, urban planning, and art. As you step through the massive 'Lion Paws' and overlook the symmetrical royal gardens below, you'll be captivated by the splendor that once dominated this rock fortress. Surrounded by ramparts and moats, the Lion Rock, resembling the mythical 'City of Gods,' is adorned with exquisite frescoes reminiscent of the Gupta-style paintings found in India's Ajanta Caves. Walk along the iconic 'Mirror Wall' on the western face of Sigiriya, a 100-meter stretch filled with ancient graffiti, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of the site.

Return to the hotel to refresh yourself and enjoy your breakfast at the hotel. Afterward, proceed to Hiriwadunna to start your village walk experience.

Hiriwadunna village, a picturesque rural area in Habarana. The jeep ride offers a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the natural breeze and capture scenic photos of the attractions along the route.

Bullock Cart Ride: Your journey begins with a charming bullock cart ride along picturesque village paths to Hiriwadunna. Pulled by two strong bulls, this leisurely ride provides a unique glimpse into rural life and the serene countryside. The ride concludes near Hiriwadunna Lake, where you'll disembark the cart to embark on the next adventure. If the clients are not comfortable doing bullock cart ride, we can arrange them tractors.

Catamaran Boat Ride: From the lake’s edge, you'll board a traditional catamaran for a scenic boat ride on Hiriwadunna Lake. As you glide across the water, enjoy breathtaking views of the Sigiriya and Pidurangala rocks in the distance. If you’re keen, join the boatman in rowing and be treated to his impressive skills, which may include crafting a hat for gentlemen and a beautiful necklace for ladies. The boat ride ends with a dock at a quaint village on the opposite shore, offering a perfect conclusion to this memorable experience.

Village House Activities & Lunch: Experience the traditional daily life of a rural village by visiting a local house. Explore the nearby paddy fields and a garden where indigenous vegetables are cultivated. Climb up into a treehouse adjacent to the fields, which farmers use at night to protect their crops from animals.

Enjoy a simple, traditional meal prepared by a village woman using fresh vegetables hand-picked from the garden. If time allows, watch as she demonstrates how to cook a traditional meal or make roti.After your meal, witness a fascinating presentation on traditional skills, including crafting a roof from coconut leaves and using a kulla and mirisgala to separate rice seeds from husks and straw.

Morning proceed to Polonnaruwa. Approx. 1.5 hours’ drive

Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Sri Lanka's ancient capitals, showcasing remarkable ruins from the 11th to 13th centuries. As the second capital of Sri Lanka, after the fall of Anuradhapura, it was developed under the reign of King Parakramabahu I and others, leaving behind a stunning array of historical and architectural landmarks.The ancient city features impressive ruins, including the Royal Palace, Gal Vihara (a rock temple with remarkable Buddha statues), and the Parakrama Samudra, a vast reservoir that highlights the advanced engineering of the time. Polonnaruwa is also home to the Vatadage and Lanka Thilaka, intricate temples with remarkable stone carvings and statues. The city's well-preserved ruins offer visitors a glimpse into Sri Lanka's medieval history and cultural heritage.
