Sensational Sri Lanka Part 5
Value for money
Now is the time to go! Pricing has increased since the war ended in 2009 however accommodation at top quality 5 star properties are available at under $200 a night.
This is fantastic value keeping in mind that next door India charges double for its accommodation. In fact the largest chunk of tourists to Sri Lanka are from its next door neighbour.
Sri Lanka is a mainly hassle free. When travelling with family and especially smaller ones long journeys are a killer. Not so with Sri Lanka as the size of the country allows you to break your trip into easily manageable trips keeping travel time down to 3-5 hours. You can also mix it up with road and train journeys. The climb up from Kandy to Nanu Oya (Nuwara Eliya) or further on to Bandarawela is a gem for kids of all ages. There’s lots to take in on the way: from the quaint little stations dotting the track to the acres after acres of lush terraced tea plantations that this country is known for. Similar train journeys can be done along the coast between Colombo-Galle and Colombo -Trincomalee shopping.
THE BENELUX BONANZA
The journey I was about to undertake would not only in geographical terms span vast distances over land and sea......it was an odyssey which would cover a period of over four hundred years and one in which I would try to establish a "connection" with my ancestors.
